Cottonballs with Legs (piping plover chick)
Piping Plover chicks have got to be the cutest babies on the beach! They are a threatened species that we give extra space to during nesting season. Because they simply nest right on the sand, they are vulnerable to a lot of predators. The chicks are ready to feed on their own within about a day while parents keep close watch. Mom and Dad will draw attention away from their chick if they think there's a threat by distracting the predator so it follows them instead of their little one. They also like to nest in tern colonies, and if you've ever tried walking past a tern colony during nesting season, you can see the brilliance of this choice, because terns aggressively defend their territory from any and all invaders. Even with such great parents, it's amazing that these little guys make it at all. This image is printed on professional photo paper (I do my own printing). Dimensions listed are for the unframed image. Framed image is approx. 15.5 x 21.5 inches. Refer to unframed image for accurate color. Mat in framed picture is the closer to the wall color than how it appears in the picture (taking pictures through glass can be tricky) Contact me for more information.
